Three candidates have filed for Columbia City Council seats
Two incumbents and one newcomer have filed for the two Columbia City Council seats up for grabs in the April election.
The filing period closed at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Incumbent Valerie Carroll was the only candidate to file for the council’s First Ward seat and will run for reelection unopposed. Incumbent Fifth Ward councilperson Don Waterman will run for reelection against newcomer Christina Hartman.
Candidates were required to gather 50 signatures from residents of their ward to demonstrate community support for their campaigns before filing.
Carroll has served on the council since August 2024, following a recall election held by constituents to remove her predecessor, Nick Knoth. Waterman has served on the council since 2023.
Columbia residents in the First and Fifth wards can vote for their next councilperson on April 7.
