Mizzou Athletics prepares for Saturday’s scorching game day forecast
University of Missouri athletics is preparing for high temperatures during Saturday's home game.
Temperatures could reach 97 degrees on Saturday as the Tigers face off against the Louisiana Ragin' Canjuns, according to the National Weather Service.
Mizzou Athletics spokesperson Michael Schroeder said the stadium and staff is prepared for any heat-related concerns.
“At all games, we have fully staffed medical personnel stationed throughout the stadium equipped and ready to help with any issues, and first aid rooms in the stadium are air conditioned,” Schroeder said.
"We have water monsters with cold water placed throughout the stadium where fans will be able to refill their water bottles. We also provide cups for fans who may not bring in a water bottle,” Schroeder added.
Tiger fans have seen hot game days in the past. In September 2018, the home opener against UT-Martin saw a high of 91 degrees with a heat index of 99 degrees. That day, 15 patients were seen at the University Hospital emergency room due to heat-related illnesses, and first-aid stations at Memorial Stadium were packed, but provided some relief, according to previous Missourian reporting.
Schroeder said fans can stop by the Hearnes Center to use the restroom and cool off on the concourse. Fans are allowed to bring one clear factory-sealed water bottle into the stadium.
